I bought this camera in the hopes that it would take the reigns from my X100V. I thought maybe because it was smaller and more discrete it would really fit in to the way I shoot.
While I find this camera quite capable, three things keep me from loving it.
1. The in-camera color simulations are not in the same league as Fujifilm. I really tried, but I kept pushing myself back to RAW and doing post on the photos. I couldn't nail them out of the camera the same way I could with my X100 cameras.
2. The camera is fragile. I broke the back screen. I worry about dust with the lens cover. It feels well made, but it's also not at the X100 level of durability for how I want to use it.
3. The manual controls on the X100 series make it feel less like a point and shoot compared to the GRIII. I treat the GRIII as a point and shoot, but with an X100, I just effortless transition into shooting manual way more.
This camera is great, an excellent form actor, and can produce great results, but it just doesn't invoke the joy of shooting out of me the same way other cameras do.
